Freeze Frame
The rules of the game

About Freeze Frame

How to play

  1. 1Five photos from sports history every day. Everyone gets the same five.
  2. 2Study each one — tap to zoom in and drag to look around — and call the year it was taken.
  3. 3You get 25 seconds per photo. When time runs out, whatever year you've picked is locked in.
  4. 4Dead on is worth 100 points (500 for a perfect day). Every year off costs you; 25+ years off scores nothing.
  5. 5Stuck? A hint gives you the sport, then the decade, for 40 points each.
  6. 6Read the clues: uniforms, equipment, haircuts, cars, ads, stadiums, film grain.

Where the photos come from

Every photo in Freeze Frame is in the public domain or published under a free license that allows reuse, such as CC0, CC BY or CC BY-SA. Most come from public archives — the Dutch National Archives, the US Library of Congress and US government photographers — via Wikimedia Commons. Each photo is credited after you guess, and every credit is on the credits page.

Freeze Frame is an independent project, not affiliated with or endorsed by any league, team or governing body.
